Vice President Joe Biden visited Fort Myers today on the campaign trail in effort to rally support for President Obama in the upcoming presidential election. He took center stage Saturday morning at the Wa-Ke Hatchee Park Recreation Center/Lexington Middle School gymnasium in south Fort Myers around 11:50 a.m.
to the sound of Bruce Springsteen’s “We Take Care of Our Own.” As he approached the podium, he was greeted by a loud, cheering assembly of supporters.Biden addressed the audience of 2,140 people to explain his thoughts on

Community Clean up

A number of organizations joined together Saturday morning between 9 a.m.-12 noon at the Wal-Mart Supercenter to help make a difference in the community. Volunteers picked up trash along Lee Blvd and many other important roadways, including Beth Stacy, Alabama, and Homestead. The major intersections of Gunnery and Sunshine were also cleaned of any roadside litter. (more…)
Rotarians Distribute Thesauruses
Members of the Lehigh Acres Rotary Club are giving every fourth grade student in Lehigh Acres their very own thesaurus.
Mike Buff, the project coordinator with the local Rotary club, said, “The idea behind this project is to provide fourth grade students in public schools with their own personal thesaurus, with no cost to the student or school. The thesaurus, combined with the dictionary they received in the third grade, is for the student to keep, so that they can use it throughout their school career,”

in the Park Scheduled
Lehigh Acres Community Council is hosting the Politics in the Park 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday September 29, 2012 at Veterans Park Recreation Center 55 Homestead Road South Lehigh Acres Florida.
Tami Baker the event coordinator said, Come out and meet the candidates who are running on the November 6 ballot. They will be here from the Federal offices down through the local races. Each candidate will give a brief speech and then be available to answer questions and display their literature. Free food will be served.

Damaged In Fire

Firefighters responded to a house fire at 908 Edison Avenue around 4:15 a.m. September 28, 2012
The son woke up to smoke in the house around 4 a.m. and got his family and dog out.
Lehigh Fire officials are investigating this fire the cause has not been determined, but it appears the fire started in the garage area here the air handler.
There is extensive damage to the residence, and the garage area is completely gutted.
The Red Cross is on the scene to aid the family.
There are no reported injuries.
Faith Lutheran Church Serving Community For Over 50 years
Faith Lutheran Church has been active for 50+ years now, being formed as a congregation on October 4, 1961 with the State of Florida. The church is also home to four other vibrant and vital churches: La Iglesias de Dios, Christ Redemption Ministries, Church of God of Prophesy and a new, small but active Spanish Assembly of God. Faith is located at 705 East Leeland Heights Blvd. in Lehigh Acres, Florida; Worship time is 10:00am on Sunday mornings; Sunday school classes for children begin at 10:15am; Communion will be distributed on the 1st & 3rd Sunday. This church is the only Lehigh Acres church with a Pipe Organ in the Sanctuary. Musicians from within the church perform regular concerts for the public, especially during the Advent Season and the Easter Season. (more…)

Joel Boulevard Crash
Leaves Seven Injured
Joel Boulevard is now open in both directions from East 13th to East 15th streets due to a crash involving two pickups.
A Ford pickup t-boned a Nissan pickup at the intersection of Joel Blvd. and 14th Street.
Seven people were injured, with at least two being airlifted to the hospital.
The crash occurred shortly after 5:30 p.m.
No further information has been made available be Florida Highway Patrol.
Student Allegedly Brought
Handgun to School
An East Lee County High School student was arrested Wednesday for bringing a loaded handgun to school, according to Lee County Sheriff’s Office reports.
An unidentified student came forward on Wednesday and said a student had a gun on school property. The student gave school administrators the names of three students.
The first two students were searched and nothing was located.
The third student was also searched and nothing was located, reports said.
As that third student was being escorted back to class, the security personnel found a black book bag near the entrance to the boy’s locker room, reports said. (more…)
New COO Appointed at
Lehigh Regional Medical Center
Harlo McCall has joined Lehigh Regional Medical Center as the Chief Operating Officer. With almost twenty years of experience in healthcare, he has worked in large and small hospitals around the country.
Since 2008 Harlo has held the position of Chief Nursing Officer, most recently at Summit Medical Center, in Van Buren, Arkansas, an HMA hospital.
Harlo McCall has a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, and in 2009 graduated with an MBA/Healthcare Management.
He is married with six children.
