As Election Day nears, the races for the two local special district boards have been tame, and probably the least controversial special districts elections in years past. Other than the economic problems of the Lehigh Acres fire district, only a few other issues are being addressed by any other candidate.

US Attorney General Eric Holder once said in an interview about voting, “What we’re talking here is a constitutional right. This is not a privilege. The right to vote is something that fundamental to who we are as Americans. We have people who have given their lives, people have sacrificed a great deal in order for people to have the right to vote. It’s what distinguishes the United States from most other countries.” (more…)

In the ECWCD races you may want to learn who is supporting whom and why? ECWCD doesn’t always run smooth. Iis it because of special interests? Is it time for this community to stand up and say enough is enough and fight against special interest?

Neal Horrom – Former ECWCD Commissioner.  See his campaign reports click here

Dewey A Tyler – Former Businessman. See his campaign reports click here

Michael J Welch – Incumbent – Being supported by persons outside of Lehigh Acres including Political Action Committees out of Tallahassee.  See his campaign reports click here (more…)

In the Fire Board races, you may want to learn who is supporting whom and why?

Does Lehigh Acres need another union controlled board? Or do we as a community need to stand up and say “enough is enough” and fight to get back a fire department that we as a community can be proud of.

Seat 1

Robert G Hewitt – No support. See his report click here

Cathy Kruse – 95 percent supported by the Firefighters and Fire Political Action Committees. See her report click here

Seat 2

Larry Becker – Incumbent – Becker has stated for the record Lehigh Fire will not be in the ambulance business if he is is re-elected. Becker has said he wants Lee county EMS to take over the job for LAFD.  See his report click here

Ronald L Krome – is 100 percent supported by the Firefighters and Fire Political Action Committees. See his report click here

Willam Liedtke – is supported by himself and a former Lehigh Acres Fire Chief. See his report click here

Rob Robbins – has had no contributions but has had almost $500 in expenses. Why? See his report click here (more…)

“Tebow or Not Tebow”

By Glen Kozemchak

Phenomenal? Enigmatic? Immaculate? Whatever term you may have used to describe last year’s Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow’s performance, you cannot deny it was electrifying.  Willing his team into the playoffs with his divinely inspired late-game drives, he repeatedly defied the odds by carrying his team on his back from certain defeat time and time again. He brought talk of the supernatural to the National Football League. A devout follower of Jesus Christ, Tebow ‘believed’ his team would win every time, and his teammates jumped on that bandwagon along with millions of football fans throughout America. ‘Tebow-Mania’ spread across the land like wildfire and ‘Tebowing’, which depicted dropping to one knee in praylike thanks, became an overnight sensation. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office was part of a sex predator sting that ended with 40 arrests, with 4 from Lehigh Acres.

Officials we spoke with explained the multi-agency operation ran from October 22nd to 28th.

Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott explained some men were looking for little girls; others were looking for little boys.

“It’s really sickening. I’d like to take this opportunity to urge parents – I’m a parent myself – to urge parents to love your kids because if you don’t someone else will,” Scott said.

Undercover agents targeted the men on various websites. And deputies say when the suspects showed up to meet the kids in person, they arrested them. (more…)

There’s an old saying that the early bird gets the worm, but getting the worm is taking longer than some early birds expect.

Early voting is off and running in Southwest Florida and some voters have been surprised to find long lines and lengthy waits at the polls hours long

Part of the reason may be the length of this year’s ballot.

Its only four pages long because includes several wordy proposed amendments to Florida’s constitution. (more…)
