Curtis P. ‘Curt’ Middleton
A memorial service and entombment will be held on July 19, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Hodges Funeral Home at Lee Memorial Park 12777 Florida 82, Fort Myers, FL 33913. During the service his step son Jason will be relocated to a new plot and will be placed near his step father Curt Middleton.
Curtis P. “Curt” Middleton, 60, formerly of Lehigh Acres, died Friday, June 21, 2013, at his home in Mississippi. He suffered a heart attack Monday, June 17, 2013.
He was an owner and executive editor of the Lehigh Acres Gazette newspaper, working with Robert Anderson of Lehigh Acres.
Longtime residents recall his presence in the community, where in the course of time he worked on the Lehigh Acres Citizen and the News-Star news staffs.
He was in charge of all editorial operations on the newspaper and used his skills as a former newspaper publisher to help guide the business end, as well. He was also associated with news products in Oklahoma, Texas, Mississippi and Tennessee, as well as Florida.
He raised his four children in Lehigh Acres.
Along with the operation of the two local newspapers, he was actively involved in Little League baseball, Pop Warner football and parents’ associations supporting school activities like the Lehigh Lightning Marching Band.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly; daughters, Rebecca and Samantha; son, Jeremiah.
He was predeceased by his step son, Jason, who was killed Jan. 20 2011, while conducting combat operations in the Helmand province in Afghanistan.
Memorial services were held Sunday, June 23, 2013, at the Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch, Miss.
