East Lee County HS
Names New Head Football Coach
After completing the interview process, involving both in-state and out-of-state candidates, East Lee County High is proud to announce that internal candidate, David Smith, has been selected as the school’s next Head Varsity Football Coach. Coach Smith will be replacing Coach Scott Jones, who announced his resignation following his team’s first-ever District Championship this past season.
Coach Smith has served as the team’s Defensive Coordinator since arriving to East Lee County High School in August 2009 to teach Driver’s Education. Prior to East Lee County High School, Coach Smith taught and coached at Cypress Lake High School for 23 years. Coach Smith is excited about the opportunity to step into his first role as Head Coach and to continue to build on the young school’s success. In his time at East Lee, he has built positive relationships with the athletes and parents, and shares a mutual level of respect with his players. Coach Smith upholds high expectations for the East Lee football program and is committed to seeing the program continue to develop and flourish. He aspires to take his team to a state series championship and send several of his players onto college with athletic scholarships. “We are on the right track and we need to continue on this path,” commented Coach Smith.
