Family Escapes House Fire
A house sustained heavy smoke damage and a bedroom is now unlivable after a fire flared up at 4525 25th Street in southwest.
Family members said a daughter smelled smoke while she was getting ready to eat and, at first, didn’t think anything of it.
The fire started in a bedroom and caused heavy smoke damage throughout the house, according to John Wayne, Lehigh Fire battalion chief.
Two adults and a child were inside at the time of the fire, as well as three dogs and two birds. All made it out safely.
Firefighters got the call about the fire at 4:37 p.m. and once they were on scene, were able to control the blaze within seven minutes with an aggressive interior attack.
The fire was contained to the bedroom, which is now a total loss. However, crews said there is also heavy smoke and charring throughout the entire house.
The Red Cross is on scene to help the family. The fire marshal was called to determine the cause of the fire.
