The sophomore guard Bernard Thompson has been cleared to play in FGCU’s Atlantic Sun Conference tournament opener Wednesday following what FGCU athletic director Ken Kavanagh said was deemed an “officiating failure” in FGCU’s regular-season finale Saturday.

On Sunday morning, Kavanagh learned from A-Sun commissioner Ted Gumbart that Thompson’s one-game suspension after receiving two technical fouls and an automatic ejection Saturday were overturned.

“From Commissioner Gumbart: Officiating failure. No suspension,” Kavanagh said via text message.
