Floridians for Safe Communities Announces Launch of “Building Safety Month” PSA in Florida
Following Florida State Senator Kathleen Passidomo issuing a proclamation marking May 2017 as “Florida Building Safety Month,” Floridians for Safe Communities’ coalition member the International Code Council (ICC) launched a Public Service Announcement (PSA) on the importance of strong building codes.
“As detailed in the video, the purpose of this month is to celebrate all aspects of building safety and to recognize the important role code officials, inspectors, fire services, builders, and tradesmen play in public safety by ensuring the buildings we occupy and visit are built safely and are resilient,” said Fugate. “This month allows us to reflect on the importance of disaster preparedness and how adopting strong building codes and increasing effective code administration allows us to proactively protect our Florida communities from natural disasters, preserving our health and safety, and safeguarding our economic investments.”
Building Safety Month reinforces the need for adoption of modern model building codes, a strong and efficient system of code administration and a well-trained, professional workforce to maintain the system. Presented by ICC and its 63,000 members worldwide by a diverse partnership of professionals from the building construction, design, and safety community, Building Safety Month brings together numerous corporations, government agencies, professional associations, nonprofits and more to support the need for safe and sustainable structures where we live, work and play.
