In Search of Miss Lehigh Acres …….
The Miss Lehigh Acres Pageant will be held this coming Saturday morning 11 a.m. on Aug. 23 at the Atrium Building at 8695 College Parkway in Fort Myers.
Suzi Hosfeld, director of the pageant and executive director of Envy Pageant Productions & Envy Models & Talent in Fort Myers, said last year’s Little Miss Lehigh Acres, Keilani Romero, won the state title and then went on to win the National title.
“In fact, three Florida women won national titles,” Hosfeld said.
She said the pageant is in Fort Myers because of the size of last year’s crowd, bringing about the move to the Atrium to hold a large crowd.
She said last year, the pageant was a sell-out with a standing room only crowd of more than 200 people.
The pageant is open to all ages from babies through married women. Winners will receive their $395 entry fee paid to the Florida State Pageant in November in Orlando.
Winners will then proceed to the national event, Hosfeld said.
The pageant was held at the VFW in Lehigh last year and it was too small and the American Legion post was not available, Hosfeld said.
She had considered the Microtel Inn and Suites but was unable to talk to them as personnel at the hotel never returned calls.
“So if we are to do a pageant for the Lehigh Acres titles, we have to do it in Fort Myers,” she said.
Entry fees start at $80 and prizes include the winners’ entry fees paid to the Florida State Pageant ($395), a $100 scholarship to Evny Models and Talent, official crown and banner, flowers and various gift certificates, as well as a year of parades, community events and more.
All contests receive a gift bag of jewelry, gift certificates, an official T-shirt and a free training class to prepare for the event.
Hosfeld said this is an official preliminary pageant to the Miss Florida American Beauty and Miss Florida U.S. International pageants. The winners of these go to the national pageant and international pageants in Japan.
Hosfeld said she formed her first company in 1984 for the expressed purpose of assisting new talent and fresh faces to break into the professional modeling, acting and talent industries.
