Incorporate Lehigh Holds First Community Meeting
by Lehigh Acres Gazette
Incorporate Lehigh Inc. held its first community meeting at Lehigh Senior High School on Nov. 4.
It was a “BUST” 20 people of 102,000 residents showed up.
The main goal of the meeting was to discuss the various subcommittees and their functions, as well as gain more community involvement.
But there is little or no support from the community residents at this time.
Incorporate Lehigh President Joan Cunningham led the meeting.
Cunningham said, there are a lot of steps in the incorporation process. That’s why we need the whole community to be involved.
They are planning on having the election for cityhood in 2019 with the city to start Jan 1, 2020.
According to the group, the feasibility study is still not finished due to lack of funds and the subcommittee reports.
BJM Consulting will perform the feasibility study but has only been paid the retainer so far.
The group refused to talk about how much money they have raised to date, but Cunningham stated it will cost over $50,000 for everything.
Cunningham said other incorporation attempts have failed mainly due to a lack of information provided to the public.
This statement Joan Cunningham said is not truthful at all, the last attempt in 2007 local politicians get in the way and the group forward the lie and lost.
Lehigh Acres Gazette has learned that some local politicians are not supporting this group due to its makeup of members.
