Gardening Exchange meeting
Come see, taste, and hear about growing pigeon peas when Ms. Lily Nieves is the guest speaker of the Lehigh Acres Edible Gardening Exchange. Here in Lehigh, she has harvested gandules (pigeon peas), as they are called in Puerto Rico, from November through April. In Haiti, pigeon peas are called Pois Congo, because they originated from Africa, mainly from the country of Nigeria. The pigeon peas from Lily’s garden came from Fajardo, Puerto Rico where arroz con gandules (pigeon peas and rice) meal is a “must” side dish for holidays and special events.
Regular Meeting:
The regular Lehigh Acres Edible Gardening Exchange meeting will start at 7:00p on Thursday, January 17th in the Veterans Park Recreational Building, 55 Homestead Road South. Members require a once-in-a-lifetime membership fee of $10 per person to Veterans Park after one free “trial” visit. There is no fee for the Lehigh Acres EdibleGardening Exchange.
4-H Meeting:
The 4-H will meet from 5:30p to 6:30p. Ms. Lillian Nieves will speak to the 4-H from 6:15pm to 6:30pm on

A raffle ticket is provided to members that bring an item to exchange whether it be seeds, cuttings, plants, fruit, veggies, or a healthy drink or snack. Raffle, free exchange, and snacking take place after the meeting has ended.
