Local Realtors Are Aggressively Pushing Lee County for Vacant Property Registry
Vacant and foreclosure homes with tall grass and boarded windows can make abandoned homes easy to spot. But it can be hard to track down the people who are supposed to keep them up to code in Lehigh Acres.
Now, some Realtors in Lehigh Acres are pushing for the Lee County commissioners to pass an ordinance to change that.
A vacant property registry ordinance would require banks to pay a fee and register foreclosed homes.
According to Kirk Beck, a real estate investor, it’s not going to solve all of the problems, but it’s going to compel the banks to take responsibility during the foreclosure process.
A similar ordinance has been on the books in the city of Fort Myers since 2010 and it’s brought in more than $200,000 for the city.
