Man Drives Car
Into Lehigh Acres Canal

A car was removed from a canal on Williams Avenue  Thursday morning after a man drove into the canal late the previous night.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, Timothy Matejkovic was driving north on Williams Avenue, which dead-ends at the canal.

Matejkovic continued driving his Acura past the dead-end and into the canal around 11 p.m.

Matejkovic told FHP that he yelled for help all night until a neighbor found him in the  morning and called the Sheriff.

Lehigh Acres Fire Department crews sent a ladder down to the man who was sitting on top of the submerged car.

He was transported to Lehigh Regional Hospital with minor injuries.

According to FHP reports, the incident was not alcohol related and Matejkovic was charged with careless driving.
