More than 600 gallons
of diesel stolen
Thieves target a gas station and stole more than 600 gallons of diesel fuel. Even with new security measures in place the thieves figured out a new way to get the fuel while employees had no clue.
Mohiuddin Jhonny manages the Shell gas station off Meadow road in Lehigh Acres. Yesterday when Jhonny was reviewing the gas logs, he made a discovery that made him sick.
619 gallons of diesel stolen and there was no record of a transaction on the computers.
Surveillance footage shows two 18 wheelers pulling in to the diesel pumps just after 10 pm Tuesday evening. Jhonny thinks the driver of the white truck is the thief because he blocks the cameras view of the pump by keeping his door open. After about 25 minutes both trucks drive off, meanwhile, the three employees inside had no idea.
Jhonny installed new locks on the pumps after crooks targeted him several years ago. He also invested in a new surveillance system, but the crooks were still able to break in to the pump and jhonny says they disconnected wires because they knew exactly what to do.
The amount of fuel taken amounts to more than $2,400. Jhonny has to pay for that out of pocket and he says right now the store barely breaks even.
Lee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
