Baseball players from around the world will converge on Lee County for the 25th Roy Hobbs World Series Oct. 26 – Nov. 23. Over the course of this four-week annual tournament, nearly 4,000 adult, amateur baseball players will take the fields in Lee County’s five county-owned complexes which include the Lee County Sports Complex, Terry Park, City of Palms Park, JetBlue Park and the Lee County Player Development Complex.

Learn the basics of soccer. Let your child experience participating in a team sport while having fun and getting a little exercise. This new monthly class will be held inside the rec center gymnasium. A $10 facility membership fee is required to participate in this class.

If a rabbit can lay eggs, then we most certainly can lay coconuts. Colored coconuts and eggs will be hidden in designated areas of the recreation center park grounds. Bring your Easter basket and join the hunt. There will be games, face painting and activities for the participants. There also will be a surprise visit from the Easter Bunny. The hunt will be broken in to four different age groups with colored coconuts and eggs in each patch. Bring your camera for that once in a lifetime photo. Students will learn traditional dances that have been handed down from generation to generation. These movements originated from the Sene-Gambian region (West Africa) known also as the Ivory Coast or the Slave Coast. Pole walking is the new corrective exercise. Improve your posture, burn calories, build bone density and increase your cardio stamina. These are the many benefits of walking with specialized poles. Lee County Parks & Recreation is now offering Pole Walking at Veterans Park Recreation Center located at 55 Homestead Road South. Morning classes begin April 4, 2012. Each session offers 4 classes for only $40 which covers instruction and use of loaner poles. All fitness levels are welcome to sign up. Class will meet outside recreation building main front doors.

Local award winning artist, June De Vincent, is offering a variety of art classes at Veterans Park Recreation Center. This is a great way to sell stuff or just come to shop. Veterans Park Recreation Center is holding a Community Yard Sale in its indoor, air conditioned gymnasium.
8 a.m. – 1 p.m., Saturday, March 10,2012 $5 per 6 ft. table and space or bring a 6 ft. table for $3 a space.
