Virginia M. Straka, 94, of Lehigh Acres, FL passed away on Fri., July 4, 2014. She gave her life to Christ in October of 1999, so she went home peacefully after a long battle of illnesses. She was born in Cranesville, PA on Oct. 21, 1919; had previously resided in Starke, FL and Clarion & Erie Co., PA; was member of Madison Street Baptist Church in Starke, FL; truly enjoyed reading her bible, crocheting and playing piano.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Carrie A. Hunt & son-in-law, John E. Hunt of Lehigh Acres, FL. She was preceded in death by husband, Andrew W. Straka and parents, Forrest and Mary Bishop.
Burial will be held at Rimersburg Cemetery in PA, Wed., July 16, 2014. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Lehigh Church of Nazarene.
John V. “Jack” Meehan, 90, a resident of Lehigh Acres, FL for the past 25 years, passed away at Hope Hospice on Sunday, July 6, 2014. He was born in Bronx, New York on March 29, 1924 and formerly lived in Clinton Corners, New York. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, enjoyed doing woodworking as his hobby and was and engineer at IBM for over 29 years.
Barbara Jean Baker 81, Lehigh Acres, Florida formerly of Indianapolis, Indiana died July 4, 2014. Barb was born Jan. 7, 1933. She was the daughter of Duge and Addie Butler. She loved to travel, camping and cooking. Barb graduated from Manual High School and retired from Marion County Welfare where she was a payroll clerk. Barb was survived by her son Steve (Sherra) Greathouse and brother Duge (Nita) Butler, 3 grandchildren Aaron Walker, Andrea and Amanda Greathouse and 4 great grandchildren. Barb was preceded in death by her husband LB (Buzz) Baker, brothers William E. (Norma) Butler, Fred Butler and Dean (Barb) Hill.
Gerald “Jerry” Otting went home to be with the Lord Monday, June 30, 2014. He was born May 23, 1936 in Flint, MI to William and Mabel (Poss) Otting. We were Blessed to have him 78 years! Jerry leaves to cherish his memory and is survived by 5 of his 6 children: son, Anthony J. Otting (Cathy) of Lehigh; daughter, Teresa (Otting) Taylor (Marc) of Fort Myers; son, Kenneth Parker of Fort Myers; daughter, Brenda (Parker) Phelps (Russell) of Lehigh; son, Ervin L. Parker II of N. Fort Myers; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He also leaves behind his loving brother and sister-in-law Ralph “Jim” Otting (Josephine) of Albuquerque, N.M.and many nieces and nephews who will all miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by: his beautiful daughter, Sheryl (Parker) Brewer; his parents; and four siblings.
Elfreda “Freda” Ann Larmony, 72, was born in Danbury, CT to Francis Bruey and Mavis Reid. Elfreda grew up on Long Island, NY and moved to St. Maarten after getting married to Leonel “Neville” Larmony. Freda moved to Lehigh Acres, FL 33 years ago and was employed with Lenny’s Furniture, her second family, for 30 years. Freda volunteered many years of service at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church religious education program in Lehigh as her daughters were growing up.
Carolyn I. May, 59, of Lehigh Acres, FL passed away on July 1, 2014. She was born in Miami, FL the daughter of David & Ercel Canada; had lived in Lee Co. most of her life and was a member of the American Legion Post 323. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Ronnie May; sons: Wayne (Jamie) Dodd of Fort Ogden, FL and Jamie May of Lehigh Acres, FL; grandchildren: Eric & Evan Dodd; and other family members: Doug & Nolen Canada, Sheila and Donald Bess and Wayne Lott. She was preceded in death by her parents. Memorial services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the First Baptist Church of Alva, 2790 Joel Blvd. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the First Baptist Church of Alva.
Loy Burnell Harper of Lehigh Acres, FL passed away on June 30, 2014. Born August 23, 1923 in West Frankfurt, IL, he was the son of Otto W. Harper and Myrtle Shehorn Harper. He is survived by his beloved wife Mildred Harper, son Neal J. Harper of Lawrenceburg, KY, and daughter Leanne C. Harper of Corona, CA, as well as grandchildren Ashley Harper and Brandon Harper. A successful businessman for many years, Loy Harper developed, owned, and ran Holiday Hills Camping Resort on Lake Barkley in Western Kentucky for 10 years before becoming Director of Tourism for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, from which he retired. A proud decorated veteran of U.S. Army Air Corps in the China-Burma-India (CBI) theater of World War II, he was very active in the CBI Veterans Association and other veterans groups in Florida, travelling throughout the United States, England and China to CBI meetings.
Visitation will be held from 1-1:45pm on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Anderson-Patterson, 2701 Lee blvd. Lehigh Acres, FL with funeral services immediately following. Military will present at 2pm. Ruth Constance Riley (nee Holden) passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 22 in Bradenton, Florida in her 93rd year. She was born in Ridgetown in 1921. She is predeceased by her husband Ted of 62 years, 5 sisters and a brother. She is survived by 4 children, Virginia (Martin) Hogan, Fred (Genia), Pat of Toronto, and Sandra (Welton) Kopp of Bradenton, She also leaves 7 grandchildren,14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Ruth and Ted moved to Florida in 1967 where they enjoyed a wonderful retirement until his death in 2005. For the past 4 years she had lived in Bradenton in an assisted living residence and had been very active until 6 months ago when she suffered some major health issues. She will be sadly missed by many family and friends, especially the residents of Emeritus, where she gave generously of her time to help enhance the the lives of all. Her internment has been performed in Lehigh Acres
Gregory Alano “Al” Naranjo, age 66, of Lehigh Acres, FL passed suddenly Wednesday, June 25, 2014. He was born in Flint, Michigan to Ellis and Angelina Naranjo. He lived in the Flint area most of his life, graduating from Atherton High School. He was employed by Buick Motor Division and was self-employed as a jeweler. He loved long distance running and completed the Crim Road Race a number of times, achieving times in the top 10% of runners his age.
He leaves behind companion, Karen Street; two brothers: Gil and Denis Naranjo; many nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, cousins and friends.

Patricia Ann LeVar, 81, of Lehigh Acres, FL passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2014. She was born in Chicago, IL to parents, John Irving Pritchard and Florence Dillon; had resided in Lehigh Acres since 1988 and loved reading, gardening and spending times with her friends playing Bunko.
She leaves behind to celebrate her memory: husband of 33 years, Edward LeVar; sons: Michael (Carol) Anderson of Houston, TX; Tim (Donna) Anderson of Lehigh Acres, FL; Terry (Mary Ruth) of Hartsville, SC; and Todd Mosher of Baltimore, MD; step children: Edward LeVar of Chicago, IL; Laura (John) Giacomino of Elmhurst, IL; and Michael (Mindy) LeVar of St. Louis, MO; 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents and two sisters.
