Ruby M. Fray, 88 of Lehigh Acres, went quietly from this world on Saturday, August 23, 2014 surrounded by her family. Ruby was born in the island of Jamaica and relocated to the United States in 1976. She lived in the state of NJ until 1992 when she relocated to Florida after her retirement.
Ruby was a dedicated Christian and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was influential in the lives of 9 children, 24 grandchildren, and 14 Great grandchildren. She is also survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, Alfred Fray and her only sister, Iris Salmon of Jamaica. She will be deeply missed by everyone including numerous relatives and friends. To everyone, she bequeaths her patience, love and infallible faith in God.
Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, September 6; Harvest International Ministry; 1201 Taylor Ln. Lehigh Acres, FL239-771-6037 from 12- 2. Viewing between the hours of 10 -12. Procession will lead to Lee Memorial Park Cemetery, Fort Myers239-334-4880 where she will be laid to rest.
Janet E. Burres, 72, of a resident of Lehigh Acres, FL for over 41 years passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2014. She was born in Muncie, IN the daughter of Roy and Doris Terrell Cole. She leaves behind to celebrate her memory: husband of 54 years, Michael Burres; children: Debbie (Howard) Shadduck of Lehigh Acres, FL and Todd (Gwayne) Burres of FL; grandchildren: Brent (Denise), Blaine, Amber, Kolton (Lindsey); and great grandchildren: Kayleigh, Aiden, Audrey and Keagan. She was preceded in death by: her granddaughter, Amber; her parents; sister, Jane; niece, Toni; and nephew, Lee Jay.
Richard M. Lewis, 78, of Lehigh Acres, FL (originally from Taunton, MA) passed away on Wed., Aug. 13, 2014. He was the owner and broker of Century 21 Lewis Realty Assoc. in Taunton, MA for over 30 years. Richard truly enjoyed the game of golf, singing and playing the guitar, but most of all his family.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory: wife of 55 years, Edith Bailey Lewis; 4 daughters; 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter.
Paul Howard Griffith, Jr., 89, of Lehigh Acres, FL passed away of natural causes on June 21, 2014. Born in Uniontown, PA on August 24, 1924 to General Paul and Pearl Griffith, he served in the South Pacific during WW II in the Army Air Corp. After the war, he returned to the US, attended Gettysburg College and settled with his family in Potomac, MD. Bethesda became his home when he married and raised his four children June Bourdat, Paul Griffith III, Tod Griffith, and Holly Griffith. Paul worked as a home builder and construction contractor. He also worked with Comsat negotiating the construction of communication satellites, and for the Uniformed Services School of Medicine. He was an active member of Columbia Country Club for over 30 years. He retired to Lehigh Acres, FL to pursue his love of golf, with his partner of 18 years, Dolly Bolton. He will return home where he will be put to rest at Arlington Cemetery with his fellow airmen and his wife of over 20 years, Mary W. Griffith. He was a loving father and will be missed by all who knew him. Services at Arlington Cemetery will be announced later when final arrangements have been made.
Leah Dell Gibson, 81, of Lehigh Acres, FL passed away on Monday, August 11, 2014. She was born on August 6, 1933 in Tulsa, OK to parents Arvil and Artiebelle Bullock Cook; was married to Raymond Gibson 58 years before he predeceased her in 2010; and was a former secretary and homemaker. She is survived by her eight children and one brother.
Arrangements will be held privately by the family.
Helen Flint Weddel, age 73, of Lehigh Acres lost her battle with pancreatic cancer on August 11, 2014. Helen is a 4th generation native Floridian who was born, raised and spent her entire life on Homestead Road in Lehigh Acres. She graduated from Alva High School in 1961. She worked in the moving business for many years. When she wasn’t working she enjoyed cooking, sewing, painting, gardening, sailing, shooting and car shows. She especially enjoye0d spending time with her family.
Robert “Bobby” Lewis Baker, 47, a resident of Lehigh Acres for over 30 years, passed away on Thurs., July 31, 2014. He was born in New Kensington, PA to Willard Baker and Doris Barcus Baker on Aug. 28, 1966. He truly enjoyed painting and gardening. He will be missed by his family.
He is survived by his children: Amanda, Stephanie, Bobby and Denice Baker of PA and Crystal Baker of FL; mother, Doris Baker; brothers: Dennis and Willard Baker; and sister, Bonnie Sue (Michael) Shinn all of Lehigh Acres, FL. He was predeceased by his father, Willard Baker and sister, Dora Mae DeGarme.
Services will be held privately by the family at a later date.
Virginia M. Straka, 94, of Lehigh Acres, FL passed away on Fri., July 4, 2014. She gave her life to Christ in October of 1999, so she went home peacefully after a long battle of illnesses. She was born in Cranesville, PA on Oct. 21, 1919; had previously resided in Starke, FL and Clarion & Erie Co., PA; was member of Madison Street Baptist Church in Starke, FL; truly enjoyed reading her bible, crocheting and playing piano.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Carrie A. Hunt & son-in-law, John E. Hunt of Lehigh Acres, FL. She was preceded in death by husband, Andrew W. Straka and parents, Forrest and Mary Bishop.
Burial will be held at Rimersburg Cemetery in PA, Wed., July 16, 2014. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Lehigh Church of Nazarene.
John V. “Jack” Meehan, 90, a resident of Lehigh Acres, FL for the past 25 years, passed away at Hope Hospice on Sunday, July 6, 2014. He was born in Bronx, New York on March 29, 1924 and formerly lived in Clinton Corners, New York. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, enjoyed doing woodworking as his hobby and was and engineer at IBM for over 29 years.
Barbara Jean Baker 81, Lehigh Acres, Florida formerly of Indianapolis, Indiana died July 4, 2014. Barb was born Jan. 7, 1933. She was the daughter of Duge and Addie Butler. She loved to travel, camping and cooking. Barb graduated from Manual High School and retired from Marion County Welfare where she was a payroll clerk. Barb was survived by her son Steve (Sherra) Greathouse and brother Duge (Nita) Butler, 3 grandchildren Aaron Walker, Andrea and Amanda Greathouse and 4 great grandchildren. Barb was preceded in death by her husband LB (Buzz) Baker, brothers William E. (Norma) Butler, Fred Butler and Dean (Barb) Hill.
