Pathologist at Lehigh Regional Medical Center Selected to Join Expert Panel
Special to the Lehigh Acres Gazette Source LRMC
Dr. Patricia Gregg, the Medical Director of Laboratory for Lehigh Regional Medical Center, is passionate about “doing the right things and doing things right.” Her ongoing work to implement the latest evidence-based guidelines involves a great deal of collaboration between the different departments of this growing community hospital in Lehigh Acres.
Recently, her participation in the College of American Pathologists (CAP) House of Delegates led to an opportunity to participate in the strenuous work of evidence-based guideline development. “So much progress has been made in cancer diagnostic testing and treatment recently, especially in the subset of cancers called lymphomas, that a guideline for optimal handling of specimens from these patients is warranted. This will help ensure that a patient who first presents to a facility where only a few patients with lymphoma are seen can have the same high-quality pathology care as someone who first presents to a higher-volume center,” explains Dr. Gregg.
The evidence-based guideline is being developed through a partnership between the American Society for Clinical Pathology (CAP) and the American Society of Hematology. The interdisciplinary guideline panel will systematically identify and review published evidence to answer key clinical questions for the initial diagnosis of patients with lymphomas. The guideline is expected to be published in early 2019.
