Reject the dirty politics
vote for the best candidate
The negative politics in the current GOP special primary for the U.S. House of Representatives District 19 has reached new lows. Virtually every citizen here is disgusted, and can hardly wait for the radio and TV attacks to be over, and for their mailboxes to be relieved of the oversized, expensive, and despicable fliers that insult our intelligence with falsehoods and misrepresentations about the various candidates.
It’s sad, but politicians in search of power often act far less honorably than they do in their ordinary lives. And once one candidate starts slinging mud in a multiple candidate race — the others are forced to strike back, if only to defend themselves.
In such a case, we the voters must ignore the negative noise and discover which candidate is in the race not in a quest for power or personal aggrandizement, but to selflessly serve “we the people”.
In the case of the current CD-19 race, the local and Florida GOP leadership should be ashamed of themselves for letting this contest deteriorate to its current depths. Where are the “adults in the room” who should have stopped the slimy attacks before they started? Why hasn’t the Republican leadership used its bully pulpits and media access to demand that the candidates run on the issues? Why haven’t they called-out those whose candidacies rely solely on defying Reagan’s 11th Amendment? Why instead have some Republican leaders actually help fund one of the guilty Super PACs?
Over our lifetimes, we who proudly call the “Paradise Coast” our home have often seen from afar power-drunk politicians who practice deceitful manipulation and engage in the politics of personal destruction. But we never expected it here. We deserve and should demand better.
In your disgust, please do not abandon your duty to submit your ballots as responsible voters. Please do not give up on the process. If anything, re-engage in the process. Seek out others whose opinions you trust. Engage your family members, neighbors, friends, and colleagues in serious discussions about what kind of nation you want to pass on to future generations.
We have a country to save, and this begins with each of our individual votes.
The power to reverse the deterioration of our nation is in our hands. Across this land, we can halt our nation’s slide toward a “nanny state” and over time reverse course, if we improve the quality of those we elect to Congress. We cannot be swayed by political distortions or outright lies. We must become informed voters and then use our votes effectively to choose the kind of leaders who will bow to no party insiders or special interests, but who will instead serve only their God and the will of the people.
In the CD-19 race, support and vote for the candidate who best exemplifies the American Dream; who has the experience and leadership skills so badly needed in Washington D.C.; and who supports the free-enterprise system, personal responsibility, hard work, and fairness for all — as the only solution to America’s current crises.
Please vote for Curt Clawson as our next representative to the US Congress.
